Forest Gardens: Agroforestry applications for the Bulkley Valley

Martin Crawford, Bill Crosson and Laurie Gallant

Join us for a showing of the 50-minute film “A Forest Garden Year” and a discussion of the potential for forest gardening as the rising star of sustainable agriculture in the Bulkley Valley.

A forest garden is a carefully designed and maintained ecosystem of useful plants (and sometimes animals) modeled on the structure of a young natural woodland. The history of forest gardens is short, basically 25 years in the U.K. and North America. Two storey systems have a much longer history e.g. hazelnut orchards with alleys of vegetables.

Come share your views on this vision of agriculture for Bulkley Valley backyards and acreages.
