Wetzin’kwa Community Forest: Community Update April 2011

Dean Daly, Chair, Wetzin`kwa Community Forest Corporation

The Wetzin’kwa Community Forest Corporation (WCFC) is the licensee responsible for managing the Community Forest tenure jointly held by the Town of Smithers and the Village of Telkwa.

WCFC operates a community forest license in the Bulkley Valley. The tenure area is over 32,000 hectares covering the north, west, and south slopes of Hudson Bay Mountain.

WCFC manages the area for the long term economic, environmental, and social benefit of the residents of the Bulkley Valley.

WCFC supports the local economy through contracts to local companies who provided forest management, logging, log hauling, seedling production, tree planting, and forest health services.

WCFC distributes annual profits from the operations back into the Bulkley Valley to provide the greatest long term benefit to residents of the region.

Dean will present an overview of the WCFC, a snapshot of the operational issues and strategic focus, as well as a financial summary year to date. There will be time at the end of his presentation for questions and answers.
