BVRC Administrative Coordinator

The Administrative Coordinator (AC) provides operational, administrative, and project-specific support to the Bulkley Valley Research Centre through contract development, contract administration, project coordination, membership renewals, and general office administration. The AC works with the BVRC Team to support and streamline BVRC operations. The AC is also in charge of coordinating specific projects through the BVRC. The AC must have excellent teamwork and communication skills, take initiative, foster the mission of the Society, and be willing to act as a collaborative ambassador for the BVRC.

The ideal candidate will be a positive self-starter who works well as part of a team and independently. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills and be comfortable engaging with diverse members of the natural resources research and management community in a positive way, primarily by phone, email, and in-person meetings. The candidate will have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel, be very well-organized and have focused attention to detail. Previous experience and a background in the natural resources disciplines is an asset.

Hours & Compensation

The expected service hours are flexible and will vary from week-to-week. It is expected that services will average 14-16 hours per week. Compensation is $20.00/hr.

Research Assistant

The Research Assistant will assist the BVRC with a variety of projects in the whitebark pine research and restoration program and the forest stand dynamics program, as well as assisting in operations of the research centre. The participant will assist different research leads on their projects in order to provide the science required to inform better stewardship of our natural resources. This work will be office, lab, and field-based.

This temporary position offers 35 hours per week for 16 weeks starting May 6, 2018, contingent upon funding. Start date is negotiable. The successful candidate may be required to work the occasional evening or weekend for special events, as required. Compensation is $20/hr.

Watershed Educator Youth Position

Based in Smithers, BC, the Bulkley Valley Research Centre (BVRC) is a non-profit organization with a mission to encourage collaboration in natural resource management initiatives. The BVRC and Eclipse Geomatics Ltd. (EGIS) have partnered on the Augmented Reality Sandbox exhibit – an interactive spatial visualization tool built by EGIS that delivers a wide range of watershed education opportunities. The Sandbox is now available for use or rental to interested educators and organizations.

The Watershed Educator will work under the direction of the Information Specialist at EGIS to develop and deliver educational materials on a variety of topics including landscape formation, watershed management, and geography featuring the Augmented Reality Sandbox Watershed Exhibit. Primary duties of the Watershed Educator will include developing educational materials for a range of audiences, liaising with venues and event organizers, and assisting with education sessions.

Employment Period: Seasonal position of 16 weeks with a start date of May 6, 2019 (negotiable and contingent on funding).

Hourly Wage Rate: $15.00/hr (35 hours per week).
