Adding It All Up, November 14-16, 2012 - Bulkley Valley Research Centre Conference
Northwest B.C. is poised to undergo increased resource development and economic growth. This conference aims to examine the opportunities that development could bring and the challenges that it could pose to our environment and communities.
- Case studies where communities, governments and industry are working together to capture benefits will be presented.
- Education and training needs and capacities for the northwest workforce will be investigated.
- Efforts underway locally and in other jurisdictions to carry out cumulative effects assessment on a regional scale and frameworks to integrate results into resource management will be discussed.
- Perspectives on integrating social and environmental assessments, and on First Nations collaboration, will be offered.
“As resource development expands in the north, communities like ours have a huge opportunity — and a responsibility — to maximize local benefits and leave a positive legacy for future generations,” says Smithers mayor Taylor Bachrach. “This conference is the next step in the important conversation about our region's future.”
