Adrian de Groot
Adrian de Groot is a vegetation ecologist with an interest in the vegetation dynamics, conservation ecology and rare ecosystems. He has been working as an independent ecologist since 2000, operating Drosera Ecological Consulting. Adrian has worked in a variety of ecosystem types including floodplains, northern grasslands, alpine and wetlands. Adrian's work has included rare and sensitive ecosystem mapping and inventory, floodplain dynamics research, Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping, grassland restoration, and writing park and vegetation management plans. He served on the Bulkley Valley Community Resources Board for seven year, three years as chair. Adrian was born and raised in Chilliwack, BC and worked on the family dairy farm for a number of years before pursuing further education. He completed a diploma in Fish, Wildlife and Recreation at BCIT in 1991, and then settled in Smithers. In Smithers Adrian worked as a Park Ranger, a forestry technician and a fisheries technician. Adrian moved to New Zealand in 1995 where he completed a BSc in Ecology at Massey university and a MSc in Ecology at Otago University. Adrian in a Registered Professional Biologist. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife Pauline and children Jacob and Taya.
