Does it matter who competes with whom: soil fertility affects competitive interactions among trees
Wednesday March 19, 2014 12:00pm-1:00pm
Northwest Community College - Smithers

Presenter: Erica Lilles, Bulkley Valley Research Centre
The forest stand dynamics group in the Bulkley Valley Research Centre has been working to understand how tree species interact with each other in our local forests, and how these interactions change with soil fertility. This seminar will present the results from several years of research on competitive interactions among lodgepole pine, interior spruce, subalpine fir and trembling aspen. We will also discuss now this local research can be used to examine some controversial competing hypotheses in plant ecology.
