About this presentation
Since June 17, 2016, medical assistance in dying can legally be provided in Canada by Physicians and Nurse Practitioners for a person who meets eligibility criteria set by the federal government. This presentation will describe how the care is being provided in BC and will include a perspective on the delivery of care in Northern Health.
About Daphne Hart
Dr. Daphne Hart is a Family Physician living in Smithers, BC. She is the administrative Medical Lead at Northern Health for Medical Assistance in Dying. As such, she is a member of the Provincial Medical Assistance in Dying Working Group. Dr. Hart has been a member of the medical staff at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital for thirty-five years. In addition to General Practice, she has provided HIV Primary Care for fifteen years and General Practice in Oncology for twelve years. She established the Methadone Maintenance Program in Smithers and has been a past Chief of Staff of the Bulkley Valley District Hospital.
