POST CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES

CANOEING

The Bulkley Valley is full of superb paddling opportunities. In June, the lakes are serene , the mountain tops still covered in snow, the wildlife is active and the fishing and birding are getting going. A local outfitter is offering trips on June 19 and June 20. The Saturday tour goes to Dennis Lake and the Sunday paddle is on Chapman Lake. Both are spectacular. The tours go 9-5 and the price of $125 is all inclusive, including equipment and lunch. For more information, check the Northern Sun Tours website at:  www.northernsun.bc.ca or email Northern Sun Tours.

HIKING

The Bulkley Valley Backpackers invite conference participants to join them on Saturday, June 19, 2010 for a hike on the McCabe trail in Babine Mountains Provincial Park. The Park is a little known wilderness gem located within a 20 minute drive of downtown Smithers. It is a great example of how a local community can work to preserve neighbouring public lands that then become a highly valuable resource for both residents and visitors. The hike is of moderate difficulty with no extremely steep sections, lots of great views and good opportunities to view mountain goats and other wildlife. Bring a lunch and appropriate clothing and be prepared to stay out most of the day. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Safeway parking lot located on Hwy.16 near the intersection with Main St. Conference participants who need a ride to the meeting location should call Jay Gilden at (250) 847-4794. There is no charge for this activity.
