A collaborative project of the BVRC
Research
Our research began in 2007 and seeks to understand how resilient whitebark pine ecosystems are to combined effects of mountain pine beetle, blister rust and a warming climate.
Restoration
Whitebark Pine was declared an endangered species in Canada in 2012. We have discovered that this ecosystem across Northern BC is in serious trouble, and that restoration is needed.
Welcome!
Endangered Whitebark Pine Ecosystems of Northern BC is a project of the Bulkley Valley Research Centre, an independent not-for-profit society based in Smithers, British Columbia.
The BVRC regularly conducts outreach and education events to increase awareness about the ecology and management of endangered whitebark pine and their ecosystems in northern BC.
Our team includes award winning scientists, local community organizations, and First Nations. In addition, we could not do what we do without the many partners, supporters, and funders who help this project continue to succeed and grow.
