Irene Ronalds

Irene is a Registered Professional Biologist who has made Smithers her home since 1993. Early on she worked for the BC government on the Protected Areas Strategy. She then took a position with Oikos Ecological Consulting, a small company focused on terrestrial ecosystem mapping. For the last 20 years she has worked as an independent consultant on a range of projects including TEM, ecosystem restoration and vegetation monitoring throughout northwest BC and the Yukon. She is particularly interested in how understorey vegetation recovers from wildfire in the Sub-Boreal forest.
Irene admires the passion and dedication of the founding members of the Centre and will strive to see their vision continue and grow. When her boys were growing up, Irene served on the board of the Bulkley Valley Cross-Country Ski Club and acted as volunteer coordinator of the youth nordic skills program. Irene is fortunate to work and recreate in the fabulous landscapes of northwest BC, and has a particular fondness for black huckleberries.
