Bioblitz 2012

Project Reference Number: 2012-10

Project Status: Complete

Led by: Patrick Williston, Gentian Botanical Research

Funder: Bulkley Valley Research Centre, Bulkley Valley Credit Union

The Smithers Bioblitz 2012 is a chance for kids and adults of all ages to explore the biodiversity of the Bulkley Valley with many regional experts. Come and help find all of the plants, animals, insects and fungi that live at Hunaker Springs on Tatlow Road, from river floodplain to upland sand stone ridge — and maple forests in between.

The event begins at 8:00 am and will feature a number of short talks about groups of species, for example plants, carnivores, toads, salamanders, snails and butterflies. There will even be a bat and owl walk in the evening. A barbecue will be provided on Saturday night. This event also includes activities for kids (starting at 10:00 am on Saturday) including a nature treasure hunt and art in nature projects.
