Wildfire Research in Northwestern BC: An MA thesis research summary
About this presentation
Susan will describe her MA thesis project entitled Community voices as agents of change: 2018 wildfire experiences in the Southside. This research tells the story of the 2018 wildfire season in Cheslatta Carrier Nation territory (the Southside) from the perspective of thirteen community members. In this presentation, Susan will speak about the theoretical lens, methodology, and findings of her research. She will also include a discussion about the practical steps and ethical considerations for working with an Indigenous community as a non-Indigenous researcher.
About Susan Miller
Susan Miller (BSW, MA) has been part of the BC Public Service for 12 years. She currently holds the title of Indigenous Relations Liaison working with BC Timber Sales out of Smithers, BC. She has a Bachelor of Social Work and just recently defended her master’s thesis in First Nations Studies. Her interests include wildfire, decolonization, and social change.
