Developing Wildfire Resiliency in BC Forests

About this presentation

A team of interdisciplinary researchers will present an overview of the BVRC’s wildfire research program, which is designed to improve resource management and reduce the vulnerability of communities and forests to negative effects of wildfires. About the research team

The BVRC wildfire research team includes Evelyn Hamilton, Kira Hoffman, Alana Clason and Sam Coggins with partnerships with Phil Burton (UNBC) and Lori Daniels (UBC). Evelyn Hamilton is a retired BCFS ecologist and environmental sciences research manager. Dr. Kira Hoffman is a historical ecologist, whose research focuses on how forests have been shaped by fire and how best to restore fire-dependent ecosystems. Dr. Alana Clason is an ecologist and modeler working on forest recovery following wildfires, looking at implications for carbon, wildlife habitat, and whitebark pine. Dr. Sam Coggins is a RPF with over 25 years of experience and expertise in remote sensing who works with First Nations on natural resource management.
