Carolyn King

Carolyn is the research team lead for the Skeena Region of the BC Ministry of Forests. In this role she oversees an interdisciplinary team of researchers and supports conversations with various audiences to ensure that science is being used to inform decision making. Prior to this role she was the cumulative effects lead for the Skeena Region, where she lead the development of decision keys to support managers and licensees to synthesize complex, multi-scale cumulative effects assessments. Carolyn has several years of policy development experience through work at Natural Resources Canada, including a stint in the Office of the Chief Scientist where she supported the advancement of the First Nations Data Governance principles of Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession within the federal science space. Carolyn has an MSc in Land Reclamation and Remediation from the University of Alberta, and a BSc from UBC’s Forest Conservation, Science and Management program.
Carolyn has lived in the Bulkley Valley since early 2020, and enjoys hiking, skiing, biking, and gardening. She feels fortunate to have had many opportunities to explore and work in the Widzin Kwah watershed, and is impressed by the passion that many folks in this community bring to volunteer roles. She looks forward to bringing her experience in translating science to managers (as well as management directives to scientists) to this role.
